Frequently Asked Questions
I want to join your classes, can I just book on?
Ballet & Tap: We learn new routines each month in Ballet and Tap, so we recommend beginning these classes at the start of a month. If you are unsure, then please send an email to offbeatdance@outlook.com, and we can advise the best week for you to start.

Commercial & Heels: For these classes, we learn dances more regularly, usually every two weeks. We advise you contact us, if you want to join these classes. January 8th 2025, will be fine for any new students. If you are more advanced, you are welcome to join us any week, and catch up on the choreography previously learnt.

I am a complete beginner, what can I join?
If you are a complete beginner, please read our section for beginners.

How much are classes?
We offer two prices, PAYG (Pay as you go) where you can book a single class or you can add multiple single classes to your basket, this price is £8 for tap/ballet and £8.50 for heels/commercial, these are refundable up until 24 hours before each class.

The other option to get discounted rate is to book the whole month, this works out as £6.50 a class for tap/ballet and £7 for heels/commercial. These bookings are only refundable until 24 hours before the first class.

What shall I wear?
Wear any clothes you feel happy moving in, in Winter the room can be cold, so please layer up and in summer it can be quite hot! For commercial and heels, feel free to wear something that makes you feel confident and empowered.

Do I need special shoes?
For tap, we recommend getting tap shoes, you are welcome to try a class in trainers first, but we usually find most students prefer to wear tap shoes as they don't stick to the floor like trainers do.
For ballet, it is preferable to wear ballet shoes, however barefoot is also fine. We ask students not to wear socks, the room can be quite slippy if you are wearing socks to dance in.
For heels, you can wear any type of heels, dance stilettos are the best, but for new starters, you are welcome to wear a block heels too. Additionally, trainers are fine until you feel comfortable for heels.
For commercial, you only need to wear trainers!

Where do I go at the Friary Grange Leisure Centre?
Our classes take place in the Ivy Room, if you know where that is great, head there! If not, ask at reception for them to direct you. We recommend asking for the Ivy Room instead of dance classes, as sometimes they will direct you to the dance studio instead.

Where can I park?
Friary Grange Leisure Centre has free parking outside, this can get quite busy, if there are no available spaces, head straight over the roundabout and go left towards the school, you can also park in this car park.
